Doordarshan continues to perform its role as the Public Broadcaster. The finals of the on going reality show on Indian Classical Music are being recorded at DDK Mumbai.

 Shabana Azmi is the host of this show enitled Naad Bhed or The Mystery of the Sound. Altogether 78 participants have been selected after the semi final rounds at Kolkata & Chennai. Spic Macy has joined hands with DD to CO Produce Naad Bhed.

The judges are all Padma award-es. From Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Kiran Seth of SPIC Macay, Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, Prabha Atre, Girija Devi, Prof TN Krishnan, Shri R Srikantan..oh the list is endless.

The show carries a total prize money of 40 lakhs for the lucky winners. There will be altogether 25 Episodes in final rounds.. Naad Bhed will be T/C shortly on DD National.

The 10th DD Event was..... the 4th Godrej DD Sahyadi Cine Awards

The 10th Event was the........... 4th DD Sahyadri Cine awards

Creating in house events and marketing them started in the year 2001 when DDK Mumbai was giving a face lift to DD Sahyadri, the Marathi channel of Doordarshan. Since then the channel has created a niche brand for itself. From  Rupees14 crores in 2001 to Rupees 36 crores in 2006, DD Sahyadri was climbing up and up when the other regional  DD channels were loosing the market share and eye balls. I was heading the DDK Mumbai & the Marathi channel at that time. Unfortunately the success story of the channel was never replicated.

In 2012 exactly after 6 years I was asked to take up the additional charge of DD Sahydri, apart from heading the marketing and West Zone region of Doordarshan. The Events are back again on the channel and the face lift of DD Sahyadri  has begun.

The Dark Clouds  hovering overhead and incessant rains cast a Gloomy spell on the 4th DD Sahyadri Cine Awards on 18th June, 2013 at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. But then, all’s well that ends well.

Thanks to  Doordarshan Kendra Staff, Friends, well wishers , Amol Palekar, Mahesh Kothare, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Kiran Shantaram, N.Chandra, Raj Dutt, Jury Members, Nominees, Awardees and performers, who braved the torrential rain’s and made it to Ravindra Natya Mandir for the Award Function.

The Government of India has set up an Expert Committee under the chairpersonship of Mr Sam Pitroda to review the functioning of Prasar Bharati.

The committee’s terms of reference include sustaining, strengthening and amplification of Prasar Bharati’s role as a public broadcaster, with a special reference to its relationship with Government, in the emerging context; a review of the status of implementation of recommendations made by various committees that have undertaken the study of Prasar Bharati, and suggesting a road map for enhancing Prasar Bharati's reach and potential; digitization of the archival material in the possession of Doordarshan and All India Radio, including material from the Independence Movement era, and the development of enabling infrastructure; use of new media to deliver digital content; ensuring a wider reach to a worldwide audience; and any other statutory issue.

 The committee has decided to study all relevant areas related to Prasar Bharati, viz., the Prasar Bharati-Government relationship, technology, business development, finance, HR & organisation, content & programming, archiving, presence on social and other new & emerging media platforms, global initiatives, regulatory mechanism, and comparison with other public service broadcasters.

On 10th April 2013 DDK Mumbai had an unusual visitor..Unusual in the sense that look wise, he was down to earth, status wise a celebrity..who created the everlasting Munnabhai character for all of us.

Impressed with DD's infrastructure...

Rajkumar Hirani spent some time visiting the DD Studios at worli. He was impressed with the huge infrastructure and had nostalgia of the bygone era of DD when Nukkad, Yeh jo hai Zindagi, Mahabharat etc were created and telecat by the pubcaster.
